How it Works

The audience shouts out a title of a musical that has never been performed before. Accompanied by a full band, the first title that the group hears becomes the title and theme for that evening’s completely improvised 60 minute musical that BWC creates on the spot.

BWC has featured performers Stephnie Weir and Nicole Parker (MadTV), Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers (SNL), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen and the E St Band), Mark Pender (Max Weinberg 7) to name a few.

BEGINNER AND ADVANCED IMPROVISERS

BABY WANTS CANDY STYLE BEGINNING MUSICAL IMPROV CLASS
Baby Wants Candy is the country's premier musical improvisation ensemble. Learn musical improvisation from the best! BWC is offering an intensive 8-week musical improvisation series, taught by members of Baby Wants Candy. You do not have to have a musical background, though you shouldn't be afraid to sing (even off- key).

This series will help you improvise better, whether in musical or non-musical improvisations. You will learn how to make strong choices, start scenes well, find and heighten the game of the scene into song, character work, and building scenes to create a great overall show. Additional focus is given in this beginning musical improv class to song structures, rhyming, and musical styles.

Baby Wants Candy stresses fast, smart and funny improvisation, and these workshops will help learn the style that has made BWC the longest running musical improv group and the best reviewed improv show in town.
Preferred Prerequisite- 1 year of improv training

NYC BABY WANTS CANDY ADVANCE MUSICAL IMPROV
Through the study of the musical genre, learn to think outside your head and construct tight, cohesive narrative structures. Make moves that advance the plot and subtly direct the forward momentum of your form while still allowing for discovery and in-the-moment interaction. Learn the difference between moves that serve the form and those that distract from it through the development of your “outside eye.”

Pre-requisite: knowledge of musical improv song structures, 3 months musical improv experience, and 6 months improv experience.

Class size: Limit 16

Cost: $300 for eight weeks.

Dates: Saturdays 1-4pm August 21st 2010 through October 9th 2010
